According to the company, MC-SE was developed over seven years of materials research, testing and manufacturing optimization and is intended to provide controlled force, greater elasticity and improved structural strength compared with its current aligner material.
“Angel is commited to innovation and never settling for 'good enough'. MC-SE is the result of seven years of materials research, testing and manufacturing optimization. The new material aims to create a new generation of aligner material that allows orthodonists to differentiate their treatment from other treatments,“ said Fox Hu, Chief Executive Officer of Angelalign Technology.
Angelalign’s current aligner material is a soft, multi-layered polymer based on PETG. MC-SE uses a different multi-layer construction that incorporates a medical-grade polyamide layer.
The company says the material is designed to deliver continuous force throughout the aligner wear cycle while bending and stretching farther than conventional materials before returning to its original shape.
Angelalign also reports that in three-point flexural testing at 8% strain, MC-SE returned to its original flat shape, while samples of commonly used PETG and the company’s current material remained visibly bent.
The polyamide layer is intended to improve strength and toughness while maintaining elasticity. Polyamides are a family of materials that includes nylon and Kevlar.
Angelalign describes the material’s performance characteristics as drawing inspiration from nickel-titanium archwires, which are used in traditional orthodontic treatment for their ability to provide relatively low and continuous force.
“Angel innovation listens to orthodontists and analyzes case results. Clinicians send us a lot of complex cases. Aligner material is the foundation of every treatment. MC-SE gives orthodontists a stronger foundation to build on. It follows angelButtonTM, A6 Mandibular Advancement and Pressure Points as part of our commitment to continue developing clinical solutions for orthodontists,” said Richard Hirschland, Chief Commercial Officer and Senior Vice President of Angelalign Technology.
Angelalign plans to develop MC-SE as a broader material platform with variations designed to produce different force effects.
MC-SE will become available globally after the company receives the appropriate registrations.
Founded in 2003, Angelalign Technology provides clear aligner products to dental and orthodontic professionals in more than 60 countries.
